Yokabaskas Sparks Women’s Lax To First GNAC Win

PAXTON, MA: Junior attacker Alice Yokabaskas (Farmingdale, ME) scored a career-high five goals to lead the Anna Maria College women's lacrosse team to a 11-5 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Caparso Field in Paxton, in the first win for the AMCATS in league play.

THE BASICS:

TURNING POINT:

  • Down 3-0 late in the first quarter, the AMCATS reeled off four consecutive goals to take the lead, going into halftime tied at 4-4. In the third quarter, it was all Anna Maria, as Yokabaskas and senior midfielder Ashley Rufo (Pittsfield, MA) each scored twice as the home team took control, coasting the remainder of the game.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Yokabaskas finished with five goals, an assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the best performance of her collegiate career.
  • Rufo finished with a hat trick as part of a brilliant all-around performance, tallying three goals, an assist, six ground balls, five draw controls and six caused turnovers. With her assist to senior attacker Jenna Grande (Whitman, MA) with 2:37 to go in the third quarter, Rufo ties the Anna Maria single-season assists record with nine.
  • Grande, freshman midfielder Makayla Gleba (Rockland, ME) and sophomore midfielder Raegan Hachey (Winthrop, ME) all scored for the AMCATS, with Grande and Hachey also tallying five ground balls each.
  • Anna Maria junior goalkeeper Ashley Sheehan (Medford, MA) picked up the win in net, stopping five of six shots on goal.
  • Albertus Magnus had two goals from sophomore midfielder Alexandra Barrett (Northford, CT), as well as scores from junior attacker Amanda McGeehan (Milford, CT), junior midfielder Keegan Riccio (West Haven, CT) and junior attacker Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, CT).
  • Albertus Magnus goalie Chloe Oliver (Milford, CT) stopped 19 shots on net.
  • It is the AMCATS' second conference win since the program was reformed in 2019.

Anna Maria will be back on the field on Saturday when they travel to Elms College for an 11:00 a.m. game.
