Women’s Lacrosse Opens Season By Dropping Mitchell

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College women's lacrosse team won their 2022 season opener with a 13-1 romp over visiting Mitchell College on Sunday afternoon at Caparso Field in Paxton. It was the AMCATS' largest margin of victory in more than a decade.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Anna Maria freshman midfielder Riley Michaud (Clinton, MA) was dominant in her first career collegiate game, as the rookie tallied four goals on the day with five shots on goal.
  • Anna Maria senior midfielder Ashley Rufo (Pittsfield, MA) posted a hat trick with three goals and five ground balls.
  • Anna Maria sophomore Sarah Burt (Plymouth, MA) was dominant force at both ends of the field. After shutting out the Mariners with seven saves in net in the first half, Burt switched to playing the field after the half time intermission, netting herself two goals and a ground ball.
  • Anna Maria senior attacker Lydia Rosen (Amherst, MA) posted a goal with five ground balls.
  • Freshman midfielder Makayla Gleba (Rockland, ME), sophomore midfielder Raegan Hachey (Winthrop, ME) and junior attacker Alice Yokabaskas (Farmingdale, ME) each netted goals while sophomore attacker Kyana Altif (Whitinsville, MA) dished out two assists.
  • Anna Maria senior defender Cassie Micklesavage (Pottstown, PA) led the AMCATS with a team-high eight ground balls while senior midfielder Nicole Maffei (Wayne, NJ) rained havoc on the Mitchell offense with four caused turnovers.
  • Mitchell sophomore defender Jessica Krupnikoff (Farmington, CT) posted the Mariners' only goal, a shot past the keeper with 7:04 left to avoid the shutout. Senior defender Lindsey Robinson (East Longmeadow, MA) led the visitors with ten ground balls.
  • With a twelve-goal margin of victory, the AMCATS achieved their most impressive victory since a 22-10 win over Wheelock on April 26, 2012.

Anna Maria will be back on the field on Tuesday when they travel to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a 7:00 p.m. game.
