AMCATS Drop Home Opener to Polar Bears

PAXTON, Mass – Thursday night marked the home opener for the AMC men's basketball team. They faced off against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears who came in to the contest 5-0 on the season. While things looked good in the early stages of the first half for the AMCATS they were ultimately outgunned by Bowdoin, 101-69.

The AMCATS were led by sophomore guard Bobby Perette (Marshfield, Mass) who came off the bench and scored 14 on the nights in just 19 minutes of play. Sophomore forward, Mike Rapoza (Charlton, Mass) scored 13 points of his own and added eight rebounds, four of which were on the offense end of the court. For the AMCATS on offense it was about the big men tonight as senior forward Kenneth Graham (West Haven, Conn) and junior forward Sidney Limage (Randolph, Mass), also posted double digit nights with 11 and 10 respectively.

On the other end of the court the Polar Bears senior guard Liam Farley (Chicago, Ill) scored a game high 23 points, shooting eight-for-12 from the field and five-of-eight from three. Sophomore guard David Reynolds (Raleigh, N.C.) notched 15 ticks on the scoreboard while grabbing a team leading five boards.

Thing started off well for the AMCATS. The teams went back and forth for the first five minutes of the game. As time went on the Polar Bears were able to take control of their opportunities and shoot 58.6% from the field in the half. While the AMCATS trailed by 10 at the half, what ultimately kept them in the game in the first period was their free throw shooting which was at 88.9% at the break.  The beginning of the second half was similar to the first half. Anna Maria was able to cut the lead down but every time they did Bowdoin would get hot and pull away which is ultimately what led to the 101-69 defeat.

Next up for Anna Maria will be a road game against Amherst College on December 5th at 7pm.
