Anna Maria Grounds Seahawks; Rapoza named to All-Tournament Team

MIDDLETOWN, CONN – On Saturday afternoon the AMCATS played in the Herb Kenny Tip-Off Tournament Consolation game where they faced off against the Seahawks of Salve Regina University which Anna Maria won 81-76 to improve to 2-1 on the young season.

Anna Maria College got another big performance from sophomore forward Mike Rapoza (Charlton, Mass) who scored a season-high 21 points while also pulling down 15 rebounds for his second double-double in three games. Sophomore guard Bobby Perette (Marshfield, Mass) put up double digit points off the bench for the second time with 17 points in 20 minutes. Joining the scoring brigade as well for the AMCATS were senior guard Liam Pickett (Oxford, Mass) who scored 11 and freshman guard Ralph Grasso, Jr. (Marlborough, Mass) who scored 10. The AMCATS shot 57.7% from the field as a team and 47.1% from beyond the three-point line.

For the Seahawks, freshman guard Kevin Kelly (Valhalla, N.Y.) led his team and all scorers with 22 points on the evening while also snagging nine rebounds. Senior guard Rodney Morton (Malden, Mass) joined Kelly and Repoza in the 20-point club for the night with 20 of his own.

Conrad's AMCATS led Salve at the half 44-35 and while they were outscored by four, 41-37, in the second half they never looked back and were able to close out the tournament with the 81-76 victory after a three-game in four-day stretch.

To go along with the win, the tournament committee named Anna Maria sophomore forward Mike Rapoza (Charlton, Mass) to the Herb Kelly Tip-off Tournament All-Tournament team.

Up next for the AMCATS is Clark University on the road Tuesday afternoon at 4pm in Worcester, Mass before breaking for Thanksgiving.
