A Big Second Half Lifts Men's Basketball Over Bowdoin College, 79-74

PAXTON, MASS: The Anna Maria Men's Basketball team stunned Bowdoin College this evening with a huge second half comeback to win the nonconference matchup, 79-74.

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/12/2020

Score: Anna Maria 79, Bowdoin 74

Records: Bowdoin (8-15), Anna Maria (9-13)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The first half was very one sided after the first three minutes of the contest when Anna Maria lost their small 6-2 lead. The AMCATS would be stuck at six points for the next eight minutes while Bowdoin gained and added onto their lead, which they pushed to 28-6 with just 10 minutes left. Anna Maria would, however, chip away at the Polar Bears lead to cut it just to 10 going into half time.

-  For Bowdoin, David Reynolds would take 7-9 behind the 3-pt line and 23 points into the locker room. Anna Maria's Mike Rapoza (Charlton, MA) had the team high of 12 points after one half of play.

-  The second half was a complete turnaround for the 'CATS as they came out firing on all cylinders from their starters to the bench. Jakia Alexandre (Fitchburg, MA) and Bobby Perette (Marshfield, MA) made a huge impact offensively in the second half as they combined for 32 points. Another notable impact player of the night was Simon Berry (Londonderry, NH) who came off the bench and had a tall task of defending Reynolds and held him to only 11 points in the second half.

- The Polar Bears held a small lead on the AMCATS for almost a full ten minutes in but at 10:37 Bobby Perette hit the go ahead 3-pt shot to take the lead 59-58. After that, the AMCATS never looked back and even pushed their lead to a max of 11 points before the last few minutes where the lead was just five points off each other.

- Anna Maria's victory came from great teamwork throughout the entire roster and tremendous hustle. Their full court press forced a sound Bowdoin team to have 23 total turnovers.

- Alexandre finished with 17 points alone in the second half, along with Perette dropping another 15 himself.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Reynolds had a game high of 34 points and nine rebounds. He also set the all-time 3-pt shots made in a single game record for the program.
