Men's Basketball Claws Past Lasell, 88-80

- NEWTON, MASS: The Anna Maria men's basketball team took down another GNAC competitor this afternoon in Lasell University, 88-80.  

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/15/2020

- Score: Anna Maria 88, Lasell 80

- Records: Lasell (8-15, 5-4 GNAC), Anna Maria (10-13, 6-3 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The AMCATS led most of the first half, but Lasell tied the score at 26-all with five minutes remaining. The Lasers were down by just one point, 34-33 with a minute to go, when Anna Maria went on an 8-2 run in the final minute to take a 42-35 lead into the intermission.

-  The AMCATS extended their lead to 10 points, early in the second half. They pushed the lead to as many as 14 midway through the second half. Lasell was able to pull within seven points with just under five minutes to play, but the 'CATS answered with six straight points and stopped all Lasers comeback attempts the rest of the way.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kevin Vanderhorst had a team high with 19 points and 16 rebounds to complete the double-double.

-  Mike Rapoza (Charlton, MA) finished with a game high 20 points and 16 boards.

-  Kennedy Minix-Rogers (Smyrna, GA) finished just behind him with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
