Field Hockey Falls to Regis 3-2
WESTON, Mass. – The Pride of Regis College rallied from a 2-0 deficit to down the AMCATS 3-2 on Tuesday night. The game winner was tallied by freshman Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) who notched her first collegiate goal with 11:20 remaining on the clock.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The AMCATS stole an early 2-0 lead but The Pride did not let up as they tightened the lead to 2-1 with a goal before halftime. Regis came into the second half firing as they tallied two more goals and shut down the AMCAT offense.
SCORING
Anna Maria came out to a flying start, as AMCAT senior Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) opened the scoring just 1:49 into the contest. Moran worked her way to the top of the area before firing a shot past Regis goalkeeper Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.).
With the two sides splitting chances at both ends, it was the Pride who broke the deadlock late in the game. After a scramble in front of the net, it was Chipman who pushed the ball over the goal line to put Regis on top. The goal would hold up as the game-winner, earning the Pride its second consecutive win.
Malcolm finished the game with 13 saves to pick up her third win of the season, while senior defender Carla Brito (Madeira, Portugal) was credited with a defensive save when she swept what appeared to be an equalizing goal off the line in the final minutes. For the AMCATS, Tobin finished with eight saves.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Anna Maria will host a GNAC showdown against Lasell College on Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. in their next game. The Pride travels to Bay Path University on Saturday for a 10:00 a.m.
