Baseball Places Four on GNAC All-Conference

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College baseball team placed four players on the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference Team as announced by the Commissioner on Monday afternoon.

Senior Kevin Wodatch (Wallingford, Conn.) earned his second consecutive First Team selection, while teammate John Sullivan (Southbury, Conn) was selected Second Team All-Conference. Seniors Mike Guarnieri (Wallingford, Conn.) and Justin Hyland (Spencer, Mass.) posted Third Team recognition.

Wodatch, earning the nod at the outfield position, started all 32 games this season for the AMCATS and batted a robust .345, including 15 extra base hits. He had 13 RBI's while drawing  11 free passes with an on-base % of .410. He was the team-leader in slugging % (.509), hits (38), runs scored (23) and doubles (23).  Along with GNAC accolades, Wodatch was named to the ECAC Second Team All-Conference and the Worcester Area Baseball First Team in 2012.

Sullivan was the team-leader in RBI's, the junior catcher drove in 21 AMCATS on the season.  He had eight doubles, two triples and two home runs while collecting 29 hits in 97 at-bats for a .299 batting average. Sullivan had one monster week for AMC, where he batted .600 (12-for-20) with 5 multi-hit games and backboned a starting rotation to a 6-1 record and 3.19 ERA over seven days. Sullivan was named GNAC Player of the Week, ECAC Player of the Week and to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week in 2013.

Hyland and Guarnieri capped off four year stellar careers with the AMCATS in 2013. Guarnieri topped the century mark in RBI's and runs scored in 2013, and will finish in the top 5 all-time for the AMCATS in most major categories. Guarnieri led the team with a .369 batting average with 38 hits with 15 RBI's and started all 32 games in centerfield. Hyland, who missed one game due to injury, batted .354 with 13 RBI's in 96 plate appearances. Defensively in the infield he had 42 assists and 102 put-outs with a .960 fielding percentage.

Senior Padraig Gilman (Leominster, Mass.) was named to the GNAC All-Conference Sportsmanship team.

The baseball team will conclude the 2013 campaign this week when the travel to Nichols College today at 3:30pm, Becker College on Wednesday at 4pm and will play Holy Cross on Saturday at noon at Fitton Field.
