AMCATS and Buccaneers Battle to Scoreless Tie

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College women's soccer team battled to a 0-0, two overtime tie with visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy today at AMCAT Field. With the split the AMCATS move to 2-1-1 while MMA remains unbeaten at 1-0-2.

The teams battled to a scoreless first half. Neither team could muster much offensive production. AMCATS' Rachel Lake (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Aoife Callinan (West Falmouth, Mass.) each delivered two shots respectively for each team.  Anna Maria goaltender Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) made 2 saves while her counterpart Katie Levesque (Wilmot, NH) had one save in the stanza.

The Buccaneers best chance in the second half came off a set corner. Sophomore Emily  Behen (Danvers, Mass.) placed a perfect ball from the left corner to senor Lauren Salem (Westfield, Mass.) who was set-up at point blank range for a header stopped by Teresa Ryan (Worcester, Mass.). Ryan had just entered the game, replacing Turley who was moved to the midfield.

Anna Maria's Emily Usher (Auburn, Mass.) had the AMCATS best opportunity. Late in the second stanza Usher created a 2-on-2 and raced up the left wing with a drive from just inside the 20 yard line that Levesque turned aside.

Mass. Maritime outshot the AMCATS 13-11 on the day.  Levesque, who played the entire 120 minutes made four saves, while Ryan, who played the last 61 minutes stopped 6 shots on net.

Anna Maria opens up conference play on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Lasell College for a 2:30pm start, while MMA travels to Coast Guard on September 17 for a 7:00 pm match-up.
