Volleyball Finishes 1-1 at Mount Holyoke Tri-Match

HOLYOKE, Mass.—The Anna Maria College volleyball team split a pair of matches today, falling 3-0 to the Lyons of Mount Holyoke College before topping UMass Dartmouth 3-1.

With today's results, the AMCATS improve to 4-5 overall.

MOUNT HOLYOKE 3, ANNA MARIA 0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-20)

The AMCATS battled closely with the Lyons through all three sets and tallied more kills than their hosts, but Mount Holyoke used a balanced attack and 10 service aces to claim victory.

The Lyons saw three service aces from Sarah Robicheau, who also added 11 digs. Katrina Meserve also tallied 11 dig, while Natalie Lyon paced the defense with 16 digs. Sarah Caggiano finished with a team-best nine kills, and Jamesa Allen had four blocks.

Anna Maria was paced by a match-best 10 kills from senior Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.). Senior setter Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) tallied 26 assists, 12 digs and added five kills, while Carolina Garcia (Springfield, Mass.), posted a team-best 13 digs. Sophomore Telliah Bursie (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) posted four blocks at the net.

ANNA MARIA 3, UMASS DARTMOUTH 1 (25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19)

Fueled by a .125 hitting percentage, the AMCATS topped the Corsairs in the nightcap. Anna Maria won the first two sets by identical 25-19 scores before the Corsairs rebounded for a two-point victory in the third set. Anna Maria made quick work of the match, taking another 25-19 win in the fourth and final set.

Garcia again had a stellar defensive performance for Anna Maria, tallying a match-high 23 digs. The AMCATS also saw 14 digs apiece from both Parker and freshman Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.). Goulet led the team in kills with nine, followed by King and Brianna LaRegina (Troy, N.Y.) with eight apiece.

Kayla Kirby led UMass Dartmouth with 13 kills. Brianna Perry totaled 20 digs, while Christina Spinazola added 32 assists and 14 digs.

The AMCATS are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to nearby Becker College for a 7:00 p.m. match. Anna Maria will open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Thursday in a 7:00 p.m. match at Suffolk.
