Volleyball Takes Two Wins at Castleton Tri-Match

CASTLETON, Vt.—The Anna Maria College volleyball team opened the 2014 campaign with a pair of victories, as they downed Castleton State College 3-0 and Green Mountain College 3-1 in a non-conference tri-match held at Castleton.

Game scores against the Spartans were 25-17, 25-20, and 27-25. Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) led Anna Maria with a team-high 12 kills.  Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) chooped in with six kills, while Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) dished out a match-high 25 assists for the AMCATS in addition to 10 digs. Brittany Jackson (Larchmont, N.Y.) and Jacqueline Clinton (Walpole, Mass.) both totaled 11 digs in the win.

Castleton's Brittany Brayman recorded a match-high 16 kills, while teammate Kristi Lawless had a match-high 12 digs.

The AMCATS posted a .157 hitting percentage over the course of the match, including a .267 effort on 45 attempts in the third game (17 kills, five errors).

In the second match of the day, the AMCATS took the first game by a score of 25-11 before Green Mountain rallied for a 27-25 win in the second game. Anna Maria would clinch the victory with 27-17 and 25-8 victories in the final two games.

Clinton was the kills-leader for the AMCATS against Green Mountain with seven. Brianna LaRegina (Troy, N.Y.), Goulet, and Telliah Bursie (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) all finished with six kills apiece. Parker dished out a team-best 16 assists, while Clinton paced the defense with a team-best nine digs.

Green Mountain was led by Torie Cowell with nine kills. Madison Wage recorded 12 digs, while Megan Roy aided the team with 16 assists.

Anna Maria will host its home opener on Tuesday, September 2, taking on WPI in non-conference action at 7:00 p.m. in Fuller Gymnasium.
