Rams Outlast AMC, 3-1

PAXTON, Mass. (10.4.11) - The Framingham State University women's volleyball team defeated Anna Maria, 3-1, in a non-conference match-up at the Fuller Activities Center Tuesday night. With the win, The Rams improves to 11-7, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 3-12.

The Rams took the first set by a 25-8 margin. Behind the serving of Courtney Moylan (Bourne, Mass.), Framingham state charged out of the gates to a 6-0 advantage. AMC couldn't rally any offense and loss the set quickly. Moylan had two aces and Michelle DeJesus (Milford, Mass.) added three more.

The second set was evenly played from start to finish, as neither team accrued a lead larger than three, until Framingham managed to pull away from a 22-20 deficit to win the match as Kayla Bertrand (Agawam, Mass.) served out the match with 5 straight points to win 25-22. With the game tied at 16, junior Melissa Stedman (Mason, NH) served 3 straight winning points for the AMCATS to give them a 19-16 lead but AMC couldn't hold the lead.

The third set was a win for Anna Maria 25-21. Serving for the AMCATS senior co-captain Nichole Robbie (Bellingham, Mass.) helped AMC take a 7-4 lead serving six straight winning points. The rams then went on a 12-6 run to take a 16-13 lead. The AMCATS wouldn't back down in this game, serving down 14-16, sophomore Amanda Glennon (Easton, Mass.) served to even the match at 17-all. Serving with the AMCATS leading 22-21, junior Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) served out the set with 3 out of 4 aces.

In game four the Rams dominate the AMCATS winning again 25-8 and winning the match 3-1. Leading the Rams was freshman Ashley Nee (Hanson, Mass.) had a dominating night with a match-high 19 kills, 6 digs and a block. Freshman setter Morgan Drew (N. Easton) had an astonishing 31 assists.

Senior Nichole Robbie led AMC with 6 digs, 6 kills and 4 aces. Megan Leyton added 6 assists and Sandy Acosta added 3 kills, 4 aces and two blocks.
