Worcester State Serve Past Anna Maria

Worcester, MA --- Senior Joanne Grenier (Orange, MA) amassed 21 assists and 13 digs to help lead Worcester State past Anna Maria, 3-0, (25-9, 25-13, 25-23) in a women's volleyball matchup in Lancer Gym on Thursday night. With the win, the Lancers improve to 4-5, while the AMCATS dip to 2-3 on the season.

Worcester State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with sets of 25-9 and 25-13 before Anna Maria roared back in an exhilarating third set before ultimately falling 25-23. The AMCATS led from the first serve until the Blue and Gold took the lead at 16-15. Anna Maria pulled regained the lead with a 17-16 edge before the Lancers went on a five point run to take the 21-17 advantage. The visitors then evened the set at 23-23 off four consecutive points. Worcester State then put the match away for the win.

Junior Becky Lebel (Millbury, MA) added 17 digs and seven assists for the Lancers, while senior Juliana Tyo (Pepperell, MA) pitched in with eight kills.

For Anna Maria, senior Nichole Robbie (Bellingham, MA) paced the squad with 10 digs, four aces and three kills. Rookie Kelly Delaney (Charlton, MA) amassed 14 digs while fourth-year Alicia Bonneau (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) aided the lineup with 10 helpers.

Worcester State hits the road for a tri-match at UMass Dartmouth beginning at 2pm when the Blue and Gold faces Southern Maine. Anna Maria heads into GNAC play with a tri-match at Emerson which includes Rivier. First serve is scheduled for 10am.
