Saints Down AMCATS in GNAC Play, 5-0

Paxton, Mass. –  Emmanuel College senior Lindsey Garvey (Warwick, RI) netted a pair of second-half goals to led the Saints to a 5-0 victory over host Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Monday afternoon at AMCAT Field.

With the win the Emmanuel moves to 7-7-2, 5-2-1 in conference play while the AMCATS dip to 4-9-1 and remain winless, 0-8 in the GNAC.

Senior Darcey Sullivan (Dalton, Mass.) added a pair of helpers on the day for the Saints while freshman Courtney Freadman (Richmond, Mass.), senior Donandrea Myette (Portsmouth, RI) and Catherine Edmonds (Action, Mass.) each had markers.

Anna Maria was led by junior Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) who had two shots on goal and Sarah Fogg (Gorham, Maine) and Rebecca Mauricio (Tiverton, RI) who each had one attempt to score.

AMC netminder Teresa Ryan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had 17 saves in the losing effort.

The Saints posted the only goal they would need just seven minutes into the contest. Sullivan motoring down the left wing crossed a nifty pass to Freadman who buried in the back of the net for the game-winning goal.

Holding only a 1-0 advantage heading into the second half the Saints exploded for four second half scores.

In the 47th minute Donandrea Myette would pick up a loose ball in the box and fired a low shot to the right corner to double the Saints lead at 2-0. Garvey would notch her sixth and seventh goals of the year over a two minute span starting in the 65th minute and Edmonds would add an insurance marker with just over a minute left in the contest for the 5-0 final.

Emmanuel had a trio of goaltenders on the day, Breanna Smith, Jenna Marcello and Abaigeal Thivierge all combine for the shutout. Smith would post the win for her third of the season.

Both teams are now off until Saturday afternoon when Anna Maria will travel to Albertus Magnus for a GNAC match-up and Emmanuel will host Mount Ida, game time for both matches is 1:00pm.
