Women's Basketball Falls Short to Suffolk

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria Women's Basketball Team ends their season after a first round loss to Suffolk University 68-58 in Boston Massachusetts.

 

The Rams (19-7) will move on to the next round of the GNAC Playoffs, and play this Thursday against the highest remaining seeds.

 

The AMCATS (10-16) end their best seeding in school history with the loss this evening.

 

Suffolk had the game in hand in the first half leading into the locker room by eleven. Gabriella DeComo led the team through the first quarter with 8 points. Marissa Gudauskas finished the half with a team high 12 points.

 

For Anna Maria, Sierra and Sienna Johnson (Brockton, Mass.) were even through the half with 7 points apiece.

 

The AMCATS cut away at the lead by outscoring the Rams 21-18, and going on a 12-5 run to start the third quarter. The Rams offense was limited to just one field goal and free throws over the first eight minutes of the fourth quarter, which allowed the AMCATs to play catch up and even the score at 57-all with just over three minutes remaining in regulation.

 

Marissa Gudauskas 20-point contribution, along with Jenni-Rose DiCecco 18 points Suffolk was able to hold on to the lead and take down the AMCATS.

 

Johanna Burke (Oxford, Mass.) and Amber Wilson (New York, NY) tied for a team high with 14 points each.
