Gauvin Notches 1,000th Career Point at Trinity

Hartford, Conn. – Anna Maria College senior guard, Christina Gauvin (Dudley, Mass.) hit her 1,000th career point on the road at Trinity College on Tuesday evening in non-conference action. Anna Maria dropped 91-45 to the Bantams in their final road game of the season. Trinity finishes the regular season with a 13-10 overall record while the AMCATS fall to 5-19.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Anna Maria was led by Gauvin who had a team-high 12 points, and Kristina Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) who also finished in double-digits with 10 points to go along with four rebounds.
 

Sophomore Courtney Erickson paced Trinity statistically with a 21 point, 13 rebound effort, followed by first-year Peace Kabari who finished with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and nine rebounds. Sheena Landy registered a game-high seven assists to match the AMCATS team total for the game and also finished with three steals while Kaitlin Lewis chipped in 11 points for the Bantams.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trinity jumped out to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter of play, led by Erickson who scored eight early points out of the gate. The Bantams shot 46.7% in the first half, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc as they opened up a 42-28 lead entering the locker rooms. Russo was the lone AMCAT to score more than five points in the first 20 minutes of the game as both teams recorded seven turnovers by the break.
 
 

The Bantams kept their foot on the gas in the second half, allowing just 17 total points from Anna Maria in the final 20 minutes. Erickson added eight points in the second half while Kabari and sophomore Becky Reifler (Garden City, N.Y.) added six apiece. Trinity dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the AMCATS, 53-18, in the game, including a 27-7 advantage in the third and fourth quarter.

The AMCATS host Rivier University on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 3:00 p.m. for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference battle on senior day.
