AMCATS Fall to Falcons, 9-2
Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College softball team dropped a 9-2 decision to visiting Albertus Magnus in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon at AMCAT Field. The AMCATS record now holds at 5-30 overall and 2-20 in conference play, while the Falcons move to 14-22 and 7-15 in GNAC play.
Albertus posted a five-run first inning to cruise to the victory. Elaina Maio delivered an RBI double in the inning and the Falcons capitalized on three AMCAT miscues to gain the 5-0 lead.
Anna Maria would strike back for a run in the bottom of the inning. Senior Tabitha Ruggeri, playing in her last home game opened the home half with a triple to left field, she crossed the plate on a pass ball by the Falcons' catcher.
The Falcons would plate a single run in the second and pour on three more in the top of the fourth to maintain a 9-1 advantage.
Anna Maria would score their second run in the fifth inning. Ashley Anderson lead off the inning with a single to left center and pinch-runner Kayla Lapierre would come around to score on Tabby Ruggeri's double to right center two batters later.
Ruggeri finished the day going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Justine Lalonde, Cristina Turley and Anderson each had singles for the AMCATS.
Anna Maria completes the 2013 campaign tomorrow with a GNAC double header at Lasell College. First pitch is slated for 3:30pm.
