Lady AMCATS End Season vs. Lasell

Newton, Mass. (4/22/13) – The Lasell softball team wrapped up their 2013 season by sweeping the AMCATS from Anna Maria College in GNAC doubleheader action 8-5 and 6-0.  Anna Maria concludes their season at 5-32 over while going 2-22 in conference play, while the Lasers cap their season on a high note with a pair of wins that pushes them to 10-26 on the year while finishing their conference schedule at 7-17.

 

Game 1

 

Amanda Szidat (Westford, Mass.) led the attack for the Lasers as she went 3-4 with three RBIs while also registering a double, while four others also contributed to the winning effort as they were able to record an RBI.  Eileen Bergin (Arlington, Mass.) got the start, but allowed three runs on two hits while also getting four strikeouts as she walked five in her two-inning appearance. Samantha Whynot (Randolph, Mass.) made a five-inning relief appearance as she got the win as she allowed two runs on five hits and struck out five batters faced.

 

Samantha Miller (Dudley, Mass.) led the AMCATS as she went 2-4 with double and two runs batted-in; meanwhile, Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) also contributed offensively as she batted 1-2, scored twice, walked twice, and was able to record two steals on the contest. Freshman catcher, Lindsay Bond (Webster, Mass.) also had a notable game as she went 2-4 at the plate and was able to record an RBI. Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) picked up the loss as she allowed eight runs on nine hits in her four innings of work. Angela Vousboukis (Swampscott, Mass.) made scoreless two-inning relief appearance allowing only two hits.

 

The AMCATS would start the scoring for the day in the 2nd inning. The first run was scored as Lowe singled up with the bases loaded allowing Justine Lalonde to easily score from third as all other runners advanced. Elizabeth Haggerty (Charlton, Mass.) and Ruggeri would score to make it 3-0 Anna Maria as a double was hit courtesy of Miller.

 

Lasell however would pull back in the third, as Samantha Whynot hit a solo home run over the left field fence to get the Lasers on the board, 3-1. Amanda Szidat was able to hit a RBI single, which allowed Courtney Moen (Brookfield, Mass.) to score from third to cut the lead to one and make it 3-2 Anna Maria.

 

After a scoreless fourth inning for the AMCATS, Lasell would take control of game one in the bottom of the fourth as they managed to score six runs as Denise Archetto (Cranston, R.I.), Erin Larghi (Wakefield, R.I.), Emily DeAngelis (Shelton, Conn.), Whynot, and Szidat all crossed home plate.

 

Anna Maria would manage to score a run in the fifth and sixth inning each, but it just wasn't enough as the Lasers took game one, 8-5.

 

Game 2

 

The Lasers were lead offensively by Nicole LeBlanc (Easton, Mass.) who went 2-3 as she batted in two runs and scored twice while registering a triple and a home run. Also contributing was Amanda Szidat who went 1-3 with two RBIs and scoring once, junior infielder, Courtney Moen helped the Lasers to victory as she batted 1-3 registering an RBI triple. Alison Saluti (Braintree, Mass.) was credited with the shutout win as she went the distance only allowing three batters reach base as she managed to also tally six strikeouts on the afternoon.

 

Anna Maria was lead by Elizabeth Haggerty who went 2-3 on the day, while shortstop, Tabitha Ruggeri went 1-3. Freshman pitcher Angela Vousboukis received the loss as she went six innings allowing six runs on nine hits.

 

The Lasers would start the scoring for the second game in the bottom half of the 2nd inning. Leblanc would start the inning at the plate and was able to rattle one all the to the fence, which allowed her to make it to third. Erin Larghi would send Leblanc home with a one out single to get Lasell on the board first.

 

In the 3rd inning, the Lasers would score twice more to make it 3-0 as Szidat would hit a two-out single allowing Santina Antoshak (Closter, N.J.) to race home after she triple to start the inning. Nicole Leblanc continued her offensive contribution, as she would send the ball over the left centerfield fence, making it 3-0 Lasell.

 

Courtney Moen helped resume the scoring in the fifth inning for the Lasers as she hit an RBI triple, which allowed Antoshak to score from first after she was able to leg out a single on a bunt. Moen would make it 6-0 as swinging strike three for Szidat got passed the catcher allowing her to score.

 

Lasell would close out the visitors in their final two at-bats to take the 6-0 victory.
