Lady AMCATS Fall to Elizabethtown and #19 Moravian

Clermont, Fla. - The Anna Maria College softball team lost 12-3 to Elizabethtown College in five innings, and suffered a 9-1 loss to national ranked #19 Moravian College in day two action of the Dot Richardson Invitational today in Clermont, FL at the NTS Sports Complex.

In Anna Maria's (0-4) opening loss to Elizabethtown, senior catcher Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the second frame, platting freshman Angela Vousboukis (Swampscott, MA) who had walked to open the inning, to even the score at one.

The Blue Jays pushed seven runs across the plate in the top of third, giving them an 8-1 advantage.

AMC responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, freshman Samantha Miller (Dudley, Mass.) had a one-out single and scored on a Blue Jay pass ball while sophomore Justine Lalonde (Shirley, NY) delivered a sacrifice fly RBI.

Elizabethtown would add a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth inning to close out the 12-3 win.

Miller and freshman Lindsay Bond (Webster, MA) were both 2-for-3 with a run scored on the day. Sophomore Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) took the loss for the AMCATS in three and a third innings, while Vousboukis stuck out three batters in an inning and two-thirds of relief.

In the AMCATS 9-1 loss to Moravian, Tabby Ruggeri, Lindsay Bond and freshman Elizabeth Haggerty (Charlton, Mass.) each picked up hits for AMC.

Ruggeri opened game two with a deep left-field triple and scored on a delayed double steal to give Anna Maria the early 1-0 lead.

The Greyhounds answered with back-to-back four run innings to break the game open.

Anna Maria's second best scoring chance came in the top of the third when Haggerty and Bond both singled, however Moravian got the third out and the Greyhounds were out of the inning.

Lowe suffered the loss allowing three earned runs in the first inning.

Anna Maria returns to action tomorrow when they face Coe College at 9 am and Penn State – New Kensington at 11 am.
