Anna Maria Falls to Albertus Magnus in Extra Innings

Holden, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus Falcons scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning to pull-off an 8-7 victory over Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball action at Wachusett Regional High School. The nightcap was postponed due to darkness and rain. With the win the Falcon move to 11-14 (4-9 GNAC), while the ACMATS drop to 2-20 (1-10 GNAC) on the season.

Senior Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) paced the AMCATS going 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Freshman Samantha Miller (Dudley, Mass.) connected on two at-bats, including a triple. Freshman Lindsay Bond (Webster, Mass.), Makalya Leite (South Easton, Mass.) and Brittney Williams (North Chelmsford, Mass.) all added singles for AMC.

Albertus Magnus had three players with multi-hit games, Freshman Veronica Hribko (East Haven, Conn.), senior Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) and freshman Allyssa Puccilli (Milford, Mass.) each collected two hits. Figueroa and sophomore Elaine Maio each added two RBI's.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning the AMCATS put a 3 spot on the scoreboard. Miller tripled to left center with one out and crossed the plate on Lindsay Bond's single up the middle. Leite then delivered a single down the left field line.  Bond eventually scored on a botched fielders' choice play and Leite came home on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3.

Anna Maria would take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth, sophomore Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) opened up the inning with a walk, next Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn) reached on a defensive error to put AMCATS on first and second for Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.). Ruggeri laced a double to right center to score both runners.

The Falcons would cut into the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Figueroa would produce a RBI single to score Puccilli who had tripled to open the inning.

Anna Maria would plate another run in the home half of the sixth inning to hold a 6-4 advantage.

With a runner on in the top of the seventh inning Maio lined a home run around the left field pole to tie the score at 6-6.

Albertus would score the winning run in the extra frame. With Isabel Lopez (West Haven, Conn.) placed on second base,  Albertus' Puccili would put down a bunt and Lopez would come home to score on an AMCAT overthrow.

AMCAT Nichole Lowe (1-10) pitched the distance for the AMCATS allowing four earned runs on nine hits while striking out three Falcons. Her counterpart in the dish, Jackie Medina (7-10) pitched five innings in relief to pick up the win.

Anna Maria returns to action on Friday when they travel to Johnson & Wales for a GNAC doubleheader, starting at 3:30pm
