Men’s Soccer Ends Season Against Blue Jays

PAXTON, MA : The Anna Maria College men's soccer saw their 2021 season come to an end with a 5-1 loss to visiting University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Carposo Field in Paxton, Massachusetts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • USJ senior forward DeAnte Anderson (Bloomfield, CT), the second leading scorer in the GNAC conference, added two more, with goals in the eighth and the 45 minutes. Anderson's score with 19 seconds left in the first half put the Blue Jays ahead 4-0 going into halftime.
  • USJ sophomore forward Dane Stephens (Jamaica) had the first goal of the game, just 3:01 into the match. It was his sixth goal of the year.
  • USJ junior midfielder Charles Mputu (Hartford, CT) scored his fourth goal of the season in the 53rd minute.
  • In the 81st minute, Anna Maria freshman midfielder Rubelsi Moran (Holden, MA) scored his tenth goal of the season off a corner kick from junior forward Hezekiah Adeyeye (Woonsocket, RI).
  • Anna Maria freshman goalkeeper David Flores (San Antonio, TX) finished his rookie season with 11 saves on the day. He finishes second in the GNAC in total saves with 85 despite starting in just 11 games.

UP NEXT:

With three conference wins in 2021, Anna Maria completes their best season since 2014 when they went 3-6 in GNAC play. With 30 goals scored this season, it was their best offensive showing by the AMCATS since 2010.
