Lawrence Leads Men’s Soccer Over Rivier

PAXTON, MA : Grad student midfielder Nick Lawrence (North Attleboro, MA) scored two goals and passed for two assists as the Anna Maria College men's soccer team prevailed 5-0 against visiting Rivier University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Carposo Field in Paxton, Massachusetts.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Saturday, October 2, 2021
  • Score: Anna Maria 5, Rivier 0
  • Records: Raiders of Rivier (1-6, 1-5 GNAC) | AMCATS of Anna Maria (2-7-1, 2-3 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The AMCATS struck first in the 20th minute when Anna Maria junior forward Hezekiah Adeyeye (Woonsocket, RI) found Lawrence with a long kick and the fourth-year player beat the keeper one-on-one for his fifth goal of the season as the hosts went ahead 1-0. That would remain the score going into halftime.
  • In the 56th minute, it was Lawrence finding freshman midfielder Rubelsi Moran (Holden, MA) on a breakaway as Anna Maria took a 2-0 lead.
  • That goal would open the floodgates for the AMCATS, as they would tack on three more scores in the following fifteen minutes. Moran would finish with two goals and an assist while junior midfielder Jared Schuster (Endwell, NY) scored one goal – the first of his career – and tallied one assist.
  • Anna Maria freshman goalkeeper David Flores (San Antonio, TX) recorded his first career shutout win with four saves.
  • Rivier freshman goalkeeper Sebastian Lembo (Nutley, NJ) finished with four saves in 79 minutes.
  • Rivier freshman midfielder Hayden Bilodeau (Windham, ME) led the Raiders with two shots.
