Girard Leads Men’s Lacrosse Past St. Joseph In GNAC Clash

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team won 16-12 over the University of St. Joseph in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Caparso Field in Paxton.

TURNING POINT:

  • Trailing 7-4 at half time, the AMCATS turned it on in the second half scoring an even dozen goals after the mid game break. The Blue Jays scored the first goal of the second half to increase their lead to four before the AMCATS responded with five straight goals, including three goals in the final two minutes of the third period.
  • The AMCATS found another gear in the fourth quarter, doubling up the Blue Jays with eight goals to the visitors' four.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The AMCATS's eight fourth quarter goals were their largest single quarter output since they scored nine in the first quarter against Mitchell College on February 26, 2020
  • Junior midfielder Tommy Girard (Newbury, MA) scored a career high five goals. Girard has nine points in the last two games (seven goals and two assists)
  • Senior attacker Nick Massaro (West Haven, CT) tied a career high with four goals, matching his total against Johnson & Wales last season. He also had two assists for a season high total of six points. Massaro also contributed 11 ground balls.
  • Senior midfielder Eric Glover (Baldwinville, MA) and freshman midfielder Zachary Boyd (Bay Shore, NY) each found the back of the net two times.
  • Freshman midfielder Nathan Powers (Putney, VT) had a game high 12 ground balls while also leading the AMCATS with three turn overs caused.
  • The AMCATS won the ground ball battle 59-52. The AMCATS also enjoyed a 19-12 edge in face-off wins.
  • Senior goalkeeper Griffin Moore (Worcester, MA) earned his second win of the season, making 14 saves.
  • The Blue Jays had five players score two goals each, including Ryan Paltauf (Southbury, CT), Noah Mocksfield (Colchester, CT), Matt Guerin (East Longmeadow, MA), Evan Baden (Burlington, CT) and Joseph Boland (Rhinebeck, NY).

 

UPNEXT:

The AMCATS will return to the field on Saturday, March 26th when they will travel to Purchase College for a noon start.
