Terriers Pull Away From AMCATS

Paxton, MA – The Anna Maria AMCATS and the Thomas Terriers clashed in today's Sunday afternoon Field Hockey matchup. The Terriers squeezed out a victory over the AMCATS 3 - 1 in a game that had fans on the edges of their seats.

This loss puts the AMCATS at 5-6 for the year, while the Terriers rise to 3-7.

The AMCATS struck first, capitalizing on a penalty shot opportunity. At the 18:58 of the first half, sophomore forward Nichole Lowe (Saugus, MA) took the seven meter shot for the AMCATS and found the left side of the goal.

About eleven minutes later the Terriers' junior defender Miranda Tinsman (Belgrade, ME) struck back, hitting the back of the net following a rebound. A second score was tallied on late in the first half when freshman midfielder Crystal Cunningham (Dexter, ME) found freshman midfielder Hillary Seekins (Winterport, ME) in front of the net.

The second half saw great defensive play from both teams. Junior goalkeeper Sofia Sourgiadakis (Littleton, MA) stopped two shots for the Terriers. AMCATS freshman goalkeeper Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, NH) made 3 big time saves, and freshman defender Amanda Hebert (South Deerfield, MA) picked up a defensive save of her own.

Unfortunately, the AMCATS defensive efforts couldn't stop sophomore forward Brittany Premo (Concord, NH) from scoring off of a rebound for the Terriers' third goal of the game.

The AMCATS travel to Bridgewater, MA to take on the Bridgewater State Bears on October 4th at 7:00 PM.
