Rams Take Down AMCATS in Paxton

PAXTON, Mass – Thursday evening the Suffolk Rams came to Paxton to take on the AMCATS in each team's third Great Northeast Athletic Conference game of the year. At the end of the night the Rams marched their way past AMC, 69-33.

For the AMCATS, senior guard Kristina Russo (South Windsor, Conn) led the team in scoring with 10 points on the night while pulling down five rebounds and accumulating three steals. Junior center Shannon Hoffmiller (Oxford, Conn) led the AMCATS in rebounding, grabbing six in the game.

On the other end of the court, for the Rams, freshman guard Jenni-Rose DiCecco (Falmouth, Mass) and junior guard Marissa Gudauskas (Bolton, Conn) led all scorers with 13 points each. Gudauskas' coming off the bench to do so. Leading the Rams in boards was sophomore forward Alexis Hackett (Charlton, Mass) with 13 rebounds on the night.

It took nearly a minute for either team to score in this one, with Hoffmiller opening the scoring at the 9:04 mark. After that neither team scored until two and a half minutes in when DiCecco hit a three for the Rams. From there, Suffolk took over the scoring, going on a 17-6 run to finish out the first quarter.

In the second quarter, it was more of the same for the Rams as they only allowed the AMCATS to score three points in the quarter and jumped out to a 32-9 lead at the half.

The second half brought more of the same for Suffolk as they continued their scoring taking a 57-17 lead in to the fourth.

The final ten minutes of the game was the best for the AMCATS holding the Rams to only 12 points. While the Anna Maria offense also picked up it wasn't going to be enough as Suffolk ran the final minute and a half off the clock to seal the 69-33 conference win over AMC.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at 1pm when they travel to the University of Saint Joseph in Hartford, Connecticut to continue their GNAC schedule.
