Franny Hammond has Career Game in Loss to Pride

WESTON, Mass – Monday evening was the final home game for the women's team before the holiday break. The AMCATS took on the Regis College on the road in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action and fell to the Pride 76-54.

The AMCATS were led by freshman guard Franny Hammond (Worcester, Mass) who had a breakout game scoring a career and game-high 18 points while also grabbing a career high 12 rebounds in the game. This was her first career double-double as well. Hammond shot eight-for-16 from the field and hit two of her three free throw attempts. Senior guard Kristina Russo (South Windsor, Conn) continued her run of good games as she extended her double-digit scoring streak to six games scoring 13 points off the bench for the visitors. Joining Hammond and Russo in double-digit scoring was sophomore forward Hailey Moore (Worcester, Mass) who scored 11 of her own while pulling down six boards.

For the Pride, senior forward Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass) scored 18 points on seven-for-eight shooting from the field, one-for-one from three-land and four-for-six from the line. Junior forward Sam D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass) recorded a double-double Monday evening, scoring 13 points and amassing 13 rebounds for the home team. Junior guard Maura Russell (Braintree, Mass) and senior guard Shannon Hayes (Billerica, Mass) each scored 12 points for Regis.

To begin the game, Regis went on a 12-0 run as AMC wasn't able to get on the board until two and a half minutes in to the game. That would set the tone for the first half as the Pride took a 34-17 lead in to the second quarter. With Kristina Russo hitting a three at the start of the second the AMCATS were able to keep pace with the Pride for part of the quarter before the home team ultimately extended their lead to 26, taking a 51-25 lead in to the half.

The second half was more of the same from the Pride as they held the AMCATS scoreless in the first 3:19 of the third quarter. The stingy defense allowed Regis to extend their lead to as many as 38 points. Though the AMCATS were outscored 20-14 in the third quarter the defense stepped things up in the fourth, as had been customary of this Anna Maria team this season, and only allowed Regis to score five points in the quarter, scoring 15 of their own. The 10-point come back was not enough as the AMCATS fell to 0-2 in conference with a 76-54 loss on the road.

Next up, Anna Maria is off until the 29^th of December when they will travel to Brunswick, Maine to take part in the Coastal Classic. The AMCATS will take on Bowdoin College at 4pm on the 29^th and then Hunter at 2pm on the 30^th.
