Gustave Shines as AMCATS Fall to Becker in Season Opener

LEICESTER, Mass – The AMCATS Women's basketball team began their 2017-2018 campaign on Wednesday evening with a down to the wire 57-54 defeat to cross-town rival Becker College at the Leicester Gym. 

AMC Senior Guard Maritza Gustave (Fall River, Mass) shined for the AMCATS as she posted a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Senior guard Kayla Odegaard (Milton, Mass) and Freshman guard Franchesca Hammond (Worcester, Mass) each added 10 points to the tally off the bench.

For Becker, Junior forward Ciara McKissick (Charlton, Mass) led all scoring with 19 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore forward Sarah Ware (Oakham, Mass) added nine points of her own and three rebounds for the Hawks.

The AMCATS were never out of the game keeping it close in the first half and erasing a two-point halftime deficit to take 45-43 lead in to the 4th quarter. In the final ten minutes Becker outscored Anna Maria 14-9 with five of those points coming in the final minute of play to seal the win for the Hawks.
