Women's Basketball Downs Pine Manor, 74-50

PAXTON, Mass.—Sophomore Christina Gauvin (Dudley, Mass.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Anna Maria College women's basketball team to a 74-50 win against the Gators of Pine Manor College on Monday evening in non-conference action at the Fuller Center.

The win marks the second-straight for the AMCATS, who improve to 6-8 overall, while the loss drops Pine Manor to 5-4.

In addition to Gauvin, the AMCATS received a double-double of 14 points and 22 rebounds from senior Trafficia Warburton (Worcester, Mass.). Warburton also posted game-highs in steals (seven) and assists (six).

Nine of the AMCATS' 10 players scored baskets today. Freshman Kristina Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) scored nine points off the bench, while junior Lindsay Bond (Webster, Mass.) and sophomores Deja Taitt (Cambia Heights, N.Y.) and Emily Capstick (Worcester, Mass.) all tallied eight points apiece.

Pine Manor received 15 points from Alexis Lee (Akron, Ohio) and 10 point from Erica Jones (Atlanta, Ga.). Khiyana Isaac (Roxbury, Mass.) paced the Gators on the boards with a team-best 12 rebounds.

Baskets were slow to fall for both teams in the opening minutes, but the Gators missed their first 11 field goals and Anna Maria opened a 12-point lead in the first 13 minutes. The Gators hit a groove to finish out the half, and trailed by just seven, 29-22, at halftime.

Pine Manor shot just 9-for-35 (25.7 percent) from the floor in the first half, while the AMCATS managed a 14-for-38 (36.8 percent) effort in the first frame.

The AMCATS improved their shooting in the second half and hit 21 field goals in 43 attempts (48.8 percent). The Gators managed seven field goals in 25 attempts to finish the game with an overall shooting percentage of 26.7 percent.

Anna Maria took their largest lead of the game, 27 points, with 4:40 left to play in the game. The AMCATS dominated all five scoring categories: points in the paint (54-22), points off turnovers (23-19), second-chance points (24-3), fast break points (12-10), and bench points (22-13).

The AMCATS are idle until Saturday, when they travel to take on St. Joseph's College of Maine, the defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) champions, in a 1:00 p.m. start.
