Women's Basketball Downs Salem State, 70-45

SALEM, Mass.-- Trafficia Warburton (Worcester, Mass.) scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the AMCATS of Anna Maria defeated the Vikings of Salem State 70-45 in Salem State's season opener Tuesday night at the Twohig Gymnasium. Anna Maria picked up their first victory of the season evening their record at 1-1 on the year. With the loss, the Vikings slip to 0-1 in their first appearance this season.
 
Warburton helped the AMCATS jump out to an early 12-3 lead as she finished the half with 13 points and 10 rebounds. However the Vikings' were able to tie the game at 21-21 with just less than seven minutes remaining in the half. Despite a slight comeback, the AMCATS exited the first half on a 15-2 run to take a 36-23 half time lead. Rachael Carter (Merrimack, NH) totaled 16 of Salem State's 23 first half points.
 
Anna Maria continued to dominate with point guard Deja Taitt (Cambia Heights, N.Y.) pushing the fast paced tempo of the AMCATS offense. Lindsay Bond (Webster, Mass.) contributed with 17 points and nine rebounds and shot 80% from the field. Anna Maria's largest margin came in late in the second half when Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) knocked down a three-pointer to put the AMCATS ahead by 26, to help secure a 70-45 victory over the Vikings.
 
Carter finished with 25 points for Salem State, leading all scorers and Malissa Saad (Worcester, Mass.) added 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Vikings.
 
The Vikings host the Salem State Tip-Off Tournament on Friday, November 21st as they face-off against the Terriers of Thomas College at 5:30 p.m.  Anna Maria will resume action when they travel to play the Hawks of Becker College at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 20th.
