PAXTON, Mass.—Senior Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) hit six three-pointers to lead the Anna Maria College women's basketball team to a 70-50 win against the Mustangs of Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
The win snapped a three-game slide for the AMCATS, who improve to 7-11 overall and 2-3 in GNAC play, while the loss drops the Mustangs to 6-13 overall and 0-5 in league action.
Pryor totaled a game-high 22 points on a 7-for-11 effort from the floor, including a 6-for-8 effort from three-point range. Sophomore Christina Gauvin (Dudley, Mass.) added 19 points while senior Trafficia Warburton (Worcester, Mass.) chipped in with 16 points.
Mount Ida was led by Angelique Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) with a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) added 11 points.
The AMCATS forced the Mustangs into 27 turnovers and made 18 steals on the afternoon, paced by Warburton with five.
The two teams traded baskets in the first two minutes of the game, but the AMCATS were quick to take control of lead. A three-pointer by Pryor at the 17:03 mark would break open a 6-6 tie, and the AMCATS would not trail from that point forward.
Anna Maria held a 40-22 lead after the first half on the strength of a 47.6 percent field goal effort. The Mustangs hit just nine field goals in the first half in 28 attempts (32.1 percent).
Mount Ida also hit nine field goals in the second half to total a 31.6 percent effort (18-57) over the course of both halves. The AMCATS added 11 field goals in the second half to total a 21-for-47 effort (44.7 percent).
The Mustangs held a 44-26 advantage in rebounds and outscored the AMCATS 22-18 in the paint. Anna Maria held a 29-10 edge in points off turnovers, while the Mustangs' bench outscored Anna Maria's, 13-8.
The AMCATS will travel to the University of St. Joseph (Conn.) on Monday for a 7:00 p.m. GNAC game. The Mustangs will travel to Simmons on Tuesday.
