Bantoms Best AMCATS, 63-50

HARTFORD, Conn.—The Anna Maria College women's basketball team dropped a 63-50 decision to the Bantoms of Trinity College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 3-4.

The AMCATS were led offensively by sophomore Deja Taitt (Jamaica, N.Y.) with 13 points on a 6-12 shooting effort including a three-pointer. Senior Trafficia Warburton (Worcester, Mass.) tallied 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Freshman Kristina Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) added eight points off the bench.

The Bantoms had three players score in double-fiigured, led by Kaitlyn Lewis with 15 points off the bench. Starters Taylor Higgins and Bianca Berez both tallied 11 points. Emily Llerena recorded a team-best nine rebounds, while Higgins dished out seven assists.

Anna Maria trailed 29-19 at halftime after hitting just seven field goals on 32 attempts (21.9 percent). The AMCATS hit 42.1 percent of field goals (8-19) in the second half, but were bested by Trinity's 22-44 game effort (50 percent). Eight of the Bantoms' 22 field-goals were from three-point range. The AMCATS outshot the Bantoms at the free-throw line, as they tallied a 17-26 effort while Trinity hit just 11 of 22.

The AMCATS also made four-less turnovers than their hosts (21-17), but Trinity held a 12-11 advantage in points scored off turnovers.

Anna Maria will be back in action on Tuesday, December 9th when they host Western Connecticut State University in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game. The AMCATS will also wrap up the 2014 semester with a home contest against Framingham State on Saturday, December 13th at 1:00 p.m.
