AMCATS Drop to Fitchburg State in Doubleheader

Fitchburg, Mass.– The Anna Maria College baseball team faced Fitchburg State in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 28th. Fitchburg was victorious in both outings, posting a 11-7 win in game one and a 17-2 victory in game two.

GAME ONE

The Amcats opened up scoring in the bottom of the first as Josepf Fahey(Auburn, Mass.) was the first player to cross home plate following an RBI from Jonathon Roy(Worcester, Mass.).

The Falcons were able to take the lead in the top of the second as Brandon Lefebvre singled up the middle to get things started for Fitchburg State at the plate bringing in Brennan Cuddahy.  Matthew Pingitore was able to get on base with a grounder to third base which scored Mike St. John (2-1).

Scoring was scarce until the fourth inning when the Falcons pulle din three more runs (5-1). The Amcats answered back in the bottom of the fourth when Matthew Elliot(Attleboro, Mass.) doubled to left field, scoring Camden Brown(Gardner, Mass.). Three more hits in the fourth were able to bring in Connor Lavin(Leicester, Mass.), Matthew Elliot(Attleboro, Mass.), and Joseph Fahey(Auburn, Mass.) (5-4).

Timothy Horton scored on an error at the top of the seventh inning to give the Falcons the final 11-7 victory.

Luis Urena(Lawrence, Mass.) pitched four innings, scattering five hits, four walks and five runs (five earned). Edel Abad(Miami, Fl.) and Daniel Chambers(Westfield, Mass.) each pitched one inning and both had one run and struck out one batter.

The AMCATS posted ten hits at the plate, as Elliot, Roy and Fahey all recorded two hits. Fitchburg totaled eleven hits in game one. Cuddahy and St. John each recorded three hits and Lefebrve notched five RBI's to lead the FAlcons to victory in game one.

GAME TWO

Fitchburg took an early lead at the top of the second inning as Nathan Littman flew out to right field bringing in Pingitore and Andrew Currie's single to first base scored Horton. Sean Maki made it home on an error by center field. 

Fitchburg pulled even farther ahead in the top of the fourth when they brought in 10 more runs. At the bottom of the sixth the Amcats were able to tally up 2 runs as Tanner Jakola(Leominster, Mass.) crossed home on a passed ball and Roy scored off of Trevor Brown's grounder to second base. This would end scoring for both teams.

At the plate, the AMCATS combined for one hit. Fahey went one-for-two at the plate to lead the AMCATS. Trevor Brown was able to notch one RBI.

Phillip Antonucci(Revere, Mass.) pitched all two innings for Anna Maria and scattered 2 hits and 5 runs (4 earned). He walked six batters. Callan Finn-McMahon(West Hartford, Conn.) pitched one inning of relief scattering 2 hits, 9 runs(5 earned) and walked 4 batters.

The Falcons totaled 8 hits. Maki led with three hits and three RBI's in the victory for Fitchburg.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Amcats will be traveling to Johnson & Wales University on Saturday, April 1st to face the Wildcats at 12 p.m and 2:30 p.m.
