AMCATS Drop to UMPI In Last Game of Five

Northborough, Mass.-- The Anna Maria College baseball team fell to the Owls of the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Sunday afternoon. The Owls took a 22-10 win in the last game of a five-game series against the AMCATS this past weekend. The AMCATS are 6-9 now while the Owls notched their first win of the season moving them to 1-14 overall.

AMCATS LEADERS

The AMCATS kicked off their scoring in the bottom of the third inning when Matthew Leahey(Rutland, Mass.) scored off of a single by Jacob Zamora(Alachua, Fl.). Matt Elliot(Attleboro, Mass.) cranked a homerun into right field and brought in Nate Gray(Kingston, N.Y.) and Zamora gaining three RBIs. In the bottom of the sixth, Elliot flew out to right field which advanced Gray to third for scoring postion and got Leahey home. 

Anna Maria finished with 12 hits. Leahey lead the AMCATS with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate and one RBI. Elliot went 1-for-5 at the plate but piled up 4 RBIs. 

UMPI LEADERS

Leading off, Martin Egan had a 3-for-5 performance at the plate and had 5 RBIs. Matt Curry followed close behind with 3-for-5 at the plate as well and has 4 RBIs. 

Matt Cauchon, Jesus Garcia, Ryan Sanderson, and Solomon Fast all finished with three hits apiece.

The Owls scored early in the top of the first inning bringing in three runs. They scored in every inning except the second, fifth and eight innings. They had their highest output in the seventh, when they plated seven runs. The Owls finished with 22 hits. 

PITCHING

Leahey took the loss on the mound for Anna Maria scattering 10 runs and 12 hits over 6 innings. Brendan Matthews(Worcester, Mass.) pitched an inning in relief and Edel Abad(Miami, Fl.) finished with 2 innings.

Angel Morales earned the win for the Owls scattering 4 runs and 3 hits over 3 innings.

The AMCATS will be facing Newbury College on Tuesday, March 21st starting at 3:30 p.m. at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass.
