Roy's Walk-Off Lifts AMCATS to Victory over Owls

Northborough, Mass.-- The Anna Maria College baseball team swept the Owls of the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a pair of games on Saturday evening. The AMCATS took a 4-2 win in game one before downing the owls 10-9 in the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk-off single to right-center field from senior Jonathan Roy (Worcester, Mass.). The AMCATS improve their record to 6-8 while the Owls fall to 0-14 overall.

GAME ONE

The first game of the evening remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning as Darren Belliveau (Baldwinville, Mass.) got things started for the AMCATS reaching on a visiting team error and then stealing second and third base to put himself into scoring positiong. A sacrifice fly ball to left field from Matthew Leahey (Rutland, Mass.) scored Belliveau (1-0). 

The Owls earned their tworuns of game one in the top of the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead off of AMCAT fielding errors. The AMCATS racked up three runs in the bottom of the sixth to gain the ultimate 4-2 victory. Trevor Brown (Gardner, Mass.) got things started with a single and got into scoring position after back to back fielding errors by the owls. Phillip Antonuccci earned an RBI when he singled through the left side to score Brown and tie the game at 2-2. Junior Tanner Jakola (Leominster, Mass.) drilled one up the middle to earn two RBIs and lift the AMCATS to the 4-2 victory in game on. 

Jakola led the AMCATS going one-for-three at the plate with two RBIs. Matt Elliot (Attleboro, Mass.) earned the win for the AMCATS pitching six innings and sattering five hits, two runs and six strikeouts. Junior Zack Parker (Manchester, N.H.) recorded a save for the AMCATS coming in to pitch the top of the seventh and gave up no hits or runs.

GAME TWO

A walk-off single from Roy helped lift the AMCATS to a 10-9 victory in game two. The Owls started off strong collected four runs in the top of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. They added an additional three runs to take a significant 7-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Anna Maria came back to life in the bottom of the fourth with four runs and three RBIs from Leahey off of a double to right center field to tighten the score to 7-4. 

The Owls kept scoring and added two more runs in the top of the fifth to go ahead 9-4. The AMCATS were able to come back within one run with RBIs from Leahey, Dylan Carissimo, and two RBIs from Trevor Brown in the bottom of the sixth (9-8). Anna Maria help the Owls to no runs in the top of the second and gave themselves one last chace in the bottom of the seventh to take the victory.

Elliot got things started for the AMCATS with a single up the middle and a visiting team error put Leahey on base and Elliot into scoring position. Roy found a hole in right center to score Elliot for the final 10-9 victory.

Leahey led the AMCATS at the plate going three-for-five with four RBIs. Trevor Brown recorded three RBIs and went two-for-four at the plate. Senior, James Marcello (Mansfield, Mass.) earned the victory pitching for the AMCATS. He pitched one inning and struck out two batters.

The AMCATS host one final game with the Owls one Sunday, Mar. 19th starting at 11:00 a.m. at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass.
