AMCATS Come Up Short In Doubleheader At Clark

Worcester, Mass. – The Anna Maria College baseball team played a double-header at Clark University on Sunday March 26th. Clark was victorious in both outings, posting a 4-0 win in game one and a 6-4 victory in game two. 

GAME ONE

The Cougars opened up scoring in the bottom of the third as Kyle Shaw was the first player to cross home plate in the game following an RBI from Kyle Bonicki. The AMCATS couldn't grab two runs to tie it up. In the bottom of the fifth, Adam Chochrek and Zach Kelley were the last two to cross home. This would end scoring in the first game. 

Tanner Jakola (Leominster, Mass.) pitched most of the game, scattering six hits, three walks and four runs (two earned) over five innings. He struck out two batters. 

The AMCATS posted one hit, as Matthew Leahey (Rutland, Mass.) was one-for-three at the plate. 

The Cougars totaled seven hits in game one. Shaw and Bonicki each recorded two hits. Bonicki notched one RBI to lead the Cougars to victory in game one.

GAME TWO

Clark took the start in scoring in the bottom of the first as Teddy Downing singled to left field scoring Shaw from second. Anna Maria answered back in the top of the second when Luis Urena (Lawrence, Mass.) scored off of a single to center field by Joseph Fahey(Auburn, Mass.).

The Cougars pulled ahead in the bottom of the fifth after bringing in four more runs. The top of the seventh inning would end scoring for the AMCATS as they were able to tally one more run.

At the plate, the AMCATS combined for eleven hits. Jakola and Leahey both went two-for-four at the plate to lead the AMCATS. Leahey recorded a team high two RBIs.

Leahey pitched all six innings for Anna Maria and scattered 7 hits and 6 runs (1 earned). He walked three batters and struck out five.

Clark totaled 7 hits, led by Ryan Ruhlin with two hits and an RBI. Chochrek and Kelley both notched one hit and one RBI in the victory against the Amcats.

Anna Maria baseball will be facing Fitchburg State on Tuesday, March 28th at 2:30 p.m at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass.
