AMCATS Drop 3-0 in Lightning Delay Senior Game

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's soccer team dropped to JWU on a rainy Friday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at AMCAT field. The game was called in the 71st minute of play due to lightening.

With the loss, the AMCATS drop to 2-14 overall and 1-10 in GNAC play, while the Wildcats improve to 14-2-3 overall and 9-0-2 in league action.

SENIOR DAY

The AMCATS recognized five seniors playing in their last home game before the start of the game. Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine), Melissa Anderson (Oxford, Mass.), Kaleigh Price (Peabody Mass.), Rebecca Mauricio (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Paige Leighton (Georgetown, Mass.) were recognized alongside Anna Maria Athletic Director, Serge DeBari.

SCORING

Deja Hursey scored two goals within 10 minutes of each other to claim an early 2-0 lead for the Wildcats. Her first goal came in the 10th minute of play as she dodged two AMCAT defenders and edged her way nearly over the goal line to put the ball in the left corner. Just 10 minutes later Hursey took a hard shot that was saved by AMCAT goalkeeper, Kate Kneeland; Hursey picked up her own rebound and fired a shot to the right low corner to claim the 2-0 lead.

With 21:14 to play in the first half, Johnson & Wales created a scrum in front of the AMCAT net. Wildcat, Xavier Carty managed to get a shot off that was ultimately deflected by an AMCAT defender into the net for the Wildcat 3-0 lead.

Due to lightening the officials called the game in the 71st minute of play and the Wildcats claimed the victory. The Wildcats took 18 total shots (14 on goal) while the AMCATS were not given the opportunity to take any.

GOALKEEPERS

AMCAT keeper Kate Kneeland had 11 saves while Colleen Lynch did not have to make a save for Johnson & Wales.
