Women’s Lacrosse Falls Short Against Falcons

NEW HAVEN, CT. – The Anna Maria Women's lacrosse team (1-13; 0-11) traveled to New Haven, CT to take on the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College (2-13; 1-10) in a GNAC Conference Matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 16-12. 

The Falcons were the first on the board just under two minutes into the first quarter. The AMCATS fired back however, with a goal from Makayla Glena off a pass from Riley Cote. Just two minutes later the AMCATS struck again with a goal from Riley Michaud to put Anna Maria up 2-1 over the falcons. A flurry of goals from the AMCATS closed out the first quarter starting with a goal from Alice Yokabaskas with just under two minutes left in the quarter. A pair of unassisted goals from Ivy Ballou and Olivia Stump gave the AMCATS the 5-4 lead at the end of the quarter.

After taking the lead early, the AMCATS set the tone in the second quarter with a quick goal from Raegan Hachey off a pass from Cote. Kyanna Altif would be next on the board scoring the AMCATS 7th goal of the evening. The Falcons would hold the AMCATS scoreless however for the remainder of the first half putting up six unanswered goals to close out the half over the AMCATS 11-7.

After an uneventful third quarter the AMCATS were the first to score with a goal from Riley Cote with just under three minutes left in the quarter. The AMCATS couldn't hold on for long however, giving up a quick goal just 49 seconds later.

Trailing behind the Falcons 12-8 at the start of the fourth quarter Riley Cote decided to take matters into her own hands burying all four goals for the AMCATS in the fourth quarter. Despite the impressive effort from Cote, the AMCATS still fell short, trailing behind the Falcons 16-12 at the end of regulation.

 BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Riley cote now sits with 33 points in 14 games played so far this season. Cote had her first five goal game this season against the Falcons.

Anna Maria women's lacrosse is back in action on Saturday, April 22nd were they will take on the Emmanuel College Saints for a GNAC Conference game. Opening draw is at 3:00PM.
