Miller's Six RBI Day, Anna Maria Sweeps Pine Manor

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Angela Vousboukis (Swampscott, Mass.) pitched back-to-back five inning victories to lead Anna Maria College to a pair of victories over Pine Manor College softball on Thursday afternoon. Pine Manor falls to 0-6 following the sweep, Anna Maria improves to 3-19 overall.

Vousboukis struck out six and surrendered three hits in an 8-0 five inning shutout in game one before striking out five over five innings in a 16-3 AMCATS victory in game two. Vousboukis was helped throughout the day by a balanced offensive attack as five different AMCATS drove in a run in game one, while every batter in the lineup drove in a run in the nightcap.

Game One: Anna Maria 8, Pine Manor 0

Anna Maria took an early lead, scoring in the top of the first inning when junior Justine Lalonde (Shirley, N.Y.) singled to plate leadoff batter Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.).

The AMCATS would add to their total in the third inning, scoring three runs on four hits, including an a two-out two-RBI single from sophomore Ashley Anderson (Palmer, Mass.) that made the score 4-0.

Anna Maria would put the game out of reach in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on two hits and two Pine Manor errors to take the 8-0 advantage.

Pine Manor senior Macayla Kirylo (Pawtucket, R.I.), junior Tatiana Mendez (East Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Chardonai Rose (Fairfield, Calif.) were the only Gators to reach base in game one.

Game Two: Anna Maria 16, Pine Manor 3

Anna Maria scored in every inning of game two as Moran and sophomore Samantha Miller (Dudley, Mass.) each collected three hits in the contest. Miller drove in a team-high four runs, finishing the day with six RBI after driving in two in game one.

Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning, Pine Manor got on the board in game two as Mutsumi Ogiso (Gifu, Japan) singled to drive home Kirylo and starting pitcher Alexis Bushika (Adams, Mass.).

The Gator rally was short lived as the AMCATS added five more runs in the top of the third inning, including a 3 RBI single from Miller.

PMC got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Ogiso doubled to drive home Kirylo but the 9-3 deficit was as close as the Gators would come for the remainder of the contest, as Anna Maria added two more runs in the fourth and five more runs in the fifth to secure the 16-3 victory.

Pine Manor will return to the field tomorrow afternoon when they host Fisher College for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.  Anna Maria will return to action Saturday when they host the University of Saint Joseph (CT).
