Softball Splits with Rivier, Notch First Win of Season

(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Anna Maria College Softball team earned a split of this morning's Great Northeast Athletic Conference Double-Header with Rivier University. The games, which were originally scheduled for 3:30pm, were moved up to a 9am start in order to beat the impending rain storm. Rivier captured victory in game one with a 7-2 final but Anna Maria bounced back to score the 6-3 victory in the back end of the double-header.

Game One: Rivier University 7, Anna Maria College 2 (Final)

Sophomore Lia Bobek (Hollis, NH) belted two solo home runs as the Raiders took the opening game of the double-header, 7-2. The 5-3 left fielder finished the game going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) was the table setter as she went 2-for-2 with a walk, three runs scored and four stolen bases. Freshman Destiny Jordan (Lawrence, Mass.) made productive outs as she recorded two RBI while going 0-for-3. Freshman Danielle Willett (Bourne, Mass.) also added a RBI base hit in the win.

Libby Sammon tossed the complete game for Rivier as she allowed just two runs on six hits over the seven innings.

Anna Maria's Angela Vousboukis took the loss in the circle as she gave up seven earned runs on eight hits – including two Home Runs. Offensively the AMCATS received a solid effort from Cristina Turley who went 2-for-3. The big hit for Anna Maria came from Samantha Miller who laced a 2 RBI triple in the sixth inning.

Game Two: Anna Maria College 6, Rivier University 3 (Final)

In game two, the Raiders weren't as fortunate against Vousboukis as she stifled the Rivier bats in the AMCATS 6-3 win – their first of 2014. Vousboukis allowed three runs on eight hits over her seven innings of work.

Rivier's Taylor Miller suffered the loss as she pitched five innings of relief giving up five earned runs (six total) on nine hits.

Peacock added another two hits to her day and Jordan went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Sophomore Kathryn Mostone (Pelham, NH) went 2-for-2 with a RBI and the Raiders also received RBIs from Willett and freshman Nicole Scotti (Concord, NH).

Turley once again provided much of the AMCATS offense as she went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and a Home Run. Also finding the long ball was Kayla Garczynski who belted a two run bomb in the seventh inning.

Anna Maria will host Suffolk University tomorrow afternoon at Popoulo Field.
