Saints Down AMCATS in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Anna Maria College softball team fell 12-4 in five innings to College of St. Scholastica on Tuesday morning in Clermont, Fla. The AMCATS record slips to 0-6 on the season.

 

Anna Maria gave up two runs in the first and five runs in the second inning, putting themselves in an 8-0 hole entering the bottom of the frame. The AMCATS answered scoring three times with two outs in the inning. Sophomore Elizabeth Haggerty (Charlton, Mass.) muscled out an infield single to score Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) for the first run. Freshman Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) followed with a base hit and Kayla Garczynski drew a walk to set the bases full for sophomore Samantha Miller (Dudley, Mass.). Miller, the reigning GNAC Player of the Week, roped a line-drive single up the middle to drive in two runs to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Anna Maria would tack on another run in the home half of the fourth inning. Freshman Ashley George (Leicester, Mass.) delivered a two-out single to right field for her first collegiate RBI to close the gap to 7-4.

Sophomore Angela Vousboukis (Swampscott, Mass.) suffered the loss for the AMCATS, allowing seven runs on six hits. Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) pitched 3.1 innings in relief, giving up the final five runs while striking out two,

After an off day the AMCATS will return to action on Thursday when they play Franciscan (9:00 a.m.) and Transylvania (1:00 p.m.) at the NTC Softball Complex.
