AMCATS Fall to Coast Guard in Spring Break Action

Clermont, Florida – Junior Justine Lalonde (Shirley, N.Y.) collected two hits and drove in three runs to lead the Anna Maria College softball team vs. Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Handcock Park in Clermont, Fla. Anna Maria falls to 0-5 overall.

Coast Guard broke the game open with eleven runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Anna Maria manufactured their first run in the top of the second.  With the bases juiced with AMCATS sophomore Ashley Anderson (Palmer, Mass.) delivered a deep sacrifice fly to right field plating Lindsay Bond (Webster, Mass.) who had walked to open the inning.

Anna Maria cut into the Bears lead again in the visitor half of the third inning. Freshman Katie Moran (Leicester, Mass.) reached to open the frame on a Coast Guard miscue, Samantha Miller and Kayla Garczynski followed with a pair of walks. Lalonde stepped to the plate next and laced a double to deep left-center field to clear the bases of AMCATS.

The Bears added a run in the bottom of the third to increase their advantage to 12-4. The AMCATS displayed some defensive leather with a pair of nice plays in the outfield. First Lindsay Bond made a beautiful diving play off the Bear's bat, while Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) snagged a sinking liner in left field.

Anna Maria is set to face College of St. Scholastica in game two of spring break action.
