Lasers Power Past Anna Maria in Men's Lacrosse

Newton, Mass. (4/9/13) – The Lasell College men's lacrosse team placed 11 different players in the scoring column on their way to a 22-7 victory over Anna Maria College. The Lasers pushed their record to 6-5 overall and 5-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with the victory while the AMCATS fell to 5-7 for the 2013 campaign and 2-4 in the league.

 

Robbie Palazzo (Redding, Conn.), Dan Clark (Scarborough, Maine) and Andy Puopolo (Duxbury, Mass.) each scored four times in the contest, with Palazzo adding two assists and Clark one helper for Lasell. Casey Sullivan (Waterford, Conn.) added one goal and four assists while Mike Dupont (Dover, N.H.) chipped in with a goal and three assists. David Walen (Longmeadow, Mass.) stopped nine of the 11 shots on goal he faced in the first half before giving way to Chris Thomas-Ikier (Burlington, Mass.) who totaled 10 saves in a half of work for the Lasers.

 

Rod Henriques (Saugus, Mass.) paced the Anna Maria attack with three goals and one assist, and Lucas Stralka (East Greenwich, R.I.) added a pair of goals. Joshua Giarratano (Warwick, R.I.) took the loss in the cage for the AMCATS, making four saves on the afternoon.

 

Lasell opened with six unanswered goals in the first quarter when DuPont fed Palazzo three different times for goals and Puopolo notched two goals. Lasell netted the first three goals of the second period, back-to-back tallies by Dylan Fernandes (Billerica, Mass.) and Puopolo added his third of the contest to give Lasell a 9-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the half.

 

Scott Henry (Coventry, R.I.) and Stralka scored consecutive goals to cut the Lasell lead to 9-2, before a goal by Lasell's Clark scored with 45 seconds remaining in the half to put Lasell in front 10-2 heading to the intermission.

 

The Lasers continued their scoring barrage in the second half, outscoring Anna Maria 7-3 and 5-2 over the final two quarters to take the 22-7 GNAC victory.

 

The Lasers will be back in action on Thursday when they visit Wheaton for a non-conference matchup while Anna Maria is off until Saturday April 13th when they host the Mustangs of Mount Ida College.
