Summers Sets All-Time Mark in AMCATS Win Over Dolphins

Paxton, MA – With an assist in the second frame senior Chis Summers (Long Valley, NJ) became the all-time leading scorer for the men's lacrosse team, as the AMCATS downed the College of Mount Saint Vincent 11-10 in non-conference action on AMCAT field on Thursday night.

Summers' assist gives him 117 points over his 4-year career breaking the previous record held by Mike Saulnier (2009-12).

The AMCATS, winners of three straight, were led by freshmen midfielder Scott Henry's (Coventry, RI)five goals and senior Rodrigo Henriques (Saugus, MA) four tallies. Senior Jason Baker (Billerica, MA) contributed a goal and three assists while sophomore Nathan Batallas (Baldwinville, MA) had a game-high eleven groundballs.

Mount Saint Vincent received four goals from junior John Petito (Staten Island, NY) while Geermaine Ngaba (Bronx, NY) and Miller Celestin (Brooklyn, NY) each added two goals.

After a 1-1 first period, the teams combined for six second period goals. AMC opened up a 3-1 lead with goals from Henriques and Henry, however CMSV answered with a pair of their own by Ngaba and Petito to tie the game at 3-all with 6:30 left in the half. Summers' milestone came next when he found Henriques in the slot to push the lead to 4-3. Henriques would add another off a Baker dish to increase the lead to 5-3 heading into intermission.

The Dolphins battled back in the third stanza notching two of the first three goals of the period to cut the lead to one, 6-5. Henry would add his 18th goal of the season next to put the score at 7-5. However, the Dolphins' Petito would score back-to-back goals on feeds from Jose Benitex and Ngaba and we would have a tie ballgame at 7-7 with 1:56 to play in the frame. Anna Maria wasted little time breaking the tie score, Lucas Stralka would find Henry in the slot for the 8-7 advantage heading into the final period.

In a see-saw affair Mount Saint Vincent would tie the game at 8-8 less than a minute into the period. Stralka would break the tie with his first goal of the night, 18th on the season to give AMC the lead for good with 12:57 remaining. Just three minutes later Anna Maria would build a two goal cushion when Stralka set-up teammate Henry for the man-up tally.

CMSV would mount a comeback last cutting the lead to 11-10 with 2:52 to play and then went a man-up over much of the final minute, but Anna Maria played solid defense as was able to run the clock out for the well-deserved win.

Anna Maria returns to action on Tuesday evening when they will travel to Lasell College for a 4:00pm GNAC tilt.
