Men's Lacrosse Soars Past Eagles, 8-6

Bangor, ME – Senior  Jason Baker and freshman Scott Henry each notched two goals and added an assist while freshman Joshua Giarratano made eight saves en route to a Anna Maria College 8-6 victory over Husson University in non-conference men's lacrosse on Wednesday afternoon at Boucher Field.

Mitch Heaps (York, PA) put Husson on the board quickly in the first few seconds of the game, from a Dillon Shaw (Augusta, ME) pass, to put the Eagles up 1-0. Three minutes later the AMCATS answered back when Scott Henry snuck one past goalkeeper John Hooper III(Wakefield, RI) to tie it up 1-1.

Eagle Dustin Brett (Loudon, NH) found the back of the net off an Alex Ryan (Northfield, NH) pass making it 3-1 just seconds later and Brandon Corbo (Merrimack, NH) took it in for a goal unassisted with a little over 5 minutes left in the 1st quarter to put Husson up 3-1.

Tthe 2nd quarter was all AMCATS. Anna Maria scored 4 times in the 2nd quarter, first when Jason Baker connected to Justin Edson for a scoring play to make it 3-2. Chris Summers sank a pass from Rod Henriques tying it up at 3-3. Then Baker and Henriques both added their own unassisted goals making it 5-3 AMCATS.

The 3rd saw Ryan scored his own unassisted goal, closing the lead down to 5-4 and thenKevin Nolan (Norwood, MA) tossed one in from Corbo tying it up at 5-5. The AMCATS weren't content relinquishing the lead. Baker scored his second goal of the game unassisted putting Anna Maria up 6-5 heading into the 4th quarter.

Heap countered with his second goal of the game after a pass from Chris DelGiudice (Oakland, ME) making it 6-6. Anna Maria silenced the Eagles cry scoring two unanswered goals to solidify the victory, Scott Henry and Lucas Stralka added the last two points for the AMCATS..

Husson lead the game in ground balls (33-20), and face offs won 15 to 1. Anna Maria edged out the Eagles in shots, 26-24.

Joshua Giarrantano earned his first collegiate win in goal for the AMCATS, and Hooper falls to 0-2 on the season with this loss in net.

The AMCATS return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host Mount Saint Vincent College (NY) at 3:30 pm.
