Men’s Lacrosse: Cadets Tame AMCATS, 12-3

Paxton, Mass. – Juniors Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, MD) and Ian Thomas (Barrington, RI) scored three goals apiece for the visiting Cadets, en route to a 12-3 victory over the AMCATS in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse matchup.  The loss drops the AMCATS to 2-4, 0-2 GNAC on the season while Norwich notches their first victory of the season, improving their record to 1-3, 1-0 GNAC.

The AMCATS received single goals from seniors Rod Henriques (Saugus, MA), Jason Baker (Billerica, MA), and freshman Lucas Stralka (East Greenwich, RI).  Goalkeeper Joshua Giarratano (Warwick, RI) made 11 saves on the day.

The Cadets tallied the first six goals of the contest, giving them a comfortable lead with two minutes remaining in the first half.  Rod Henriques broke through for the first AMCAT goal of the game, with 1:58 on the clock in the 2nd quarter.  After a Cadet penalty, Lucas Stralka capitalized on the man-up situation, giving the AMCATS their 2nd goal in a span of 25 seconds.  Anna Maria gained momentum heading into the half, cutting the Norwich lead to 6-2.

The Cadets regained their offensive rhythm early in the 3rd quarter, as freshman Ryan McCarthy (Medford, MA) scored his second goal with 13:18 on the clock.  It was all Norwich from there, as they outscored Anna Maria 6-1 in the second half.

Anna Maria looks to get back on track this Saturday, as they host Curry College at 12:00 PM.
