Tennis Falls to Suffolk, 8-1, on Senior Day

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to the Rams of Suffolk University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Wednesday evening at the Paxton Sports Center.

SENIOR DAY

Prior to the start of the match, the AMCATS recognized three seniors playing in their final regularly-scheduled home match: Laura Cabral (Fall River, Mass.), a two-year member of the team, Marrissa Leonard (Billerica, Mass.), a three-year member of the team, and Jessica Gautieri (North Attleboro, Mass.), a four-year member of the program.

DOUBLES

Suffolk took 8-0 sweeps at second and third doubles to take an early 2-0 lead, while the first doubles pairing battled it out. The Rams were ultimately victorious as Aidiana Sagyndykova and Elena Cisneros Garci defeated Gautieri and Johanna Dean (Carrollton, Texas) 8-4.

SINGLES

The Rams took five singles wins at Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. An injury at second singles forced the Rams to default, awarding Dean the victory.

At the top slot, Sagyndykova and Gautieri battled hard to a 7-5 decision in the first set of the 7-5, 6-0 decision.

WHAT'S NEXT

Anna Maria hosts Becker on Sunday at noon in a makeup match before concluding the season with three-straight road dates at Simmons, Worcester State, and Johnson & Wales. Suffolk will host JWU on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
