Lynx Leap to 8-1 Win over Tennis
PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to the Lynx of Lesley University on Thursday evening in non-conference action at the Paxton Sports Center.
DOUBLES
The Lynx took two quick wins in doubles in the second and third slots but the real battle of the evening was at No. 1 doubles, where Anna Maria's Jessica Gautieri (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Johanna Dean (Carrollton, Texas) took a hard-fought, back-and-forth 8-6 win over Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) and Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine).
Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) took an 8-1 win over Marrissa Leonard (Billerica, Mass.) and Casey Lacasse (Auburn, Maine) at No. 2 doubles, while the duo of Frances De Leon )Murrieta, Calif.) and Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) earned a shutout victory over Sophia Wackell (Millbury, Mass.) and Karleen Shorette (Millbury, Mass.).
SINGLES
The Lynx were victorious in five singles matches and took a forfeit win in the No. 6 slot for the sweep. The pairing between Kiddie and Guatieri in the top slot went into tiebreaker points after Guatieri took the first set 6-4 and Kiddie rallied for a 6-0 win in the second.
De Leon and Russo both pulled off perfect 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
WHAT'S NEXT
The AMCATS have a quick turnaround as they travel to Bay Path tomorrow for a 3:30 p.m. match, rescheduled from earlier in the season. Lesley well make the trek across Boston on Monday for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference match against Suffolk.
