Clark Passes Past Women's Tennis, 7-2

WORCESTER, Mass. – Host Clark University swept all three doubles matches en route to a 7-2 win over Worcester-area rival Anna Maria in non-league women's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.

The win for the Cougars snaps a 14-match losing streak that dated back to September of last season and gives new head coach Laurance Kimbrough his first collegiate coaching victory.

Meanwhile for the AMCATS, the loss sends them to 0-2 on the season in advance of their home game on Thursday against UMass-Dartmouth.

Clark opened up with Misa Mai (Sanford, Maine) and Emma Coppes (Muncy, Pa.) teaming up to knock off Marrissa Leonard (Billerica, Mass.) and Jess Palmer (Sutton, Mass.), 8-2 at No. 3. That was followed by Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) and Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) combining to move past Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, R.I.) and Callie Mulcahy (Charlton, Mass.), 8-3, at No. 2.

No. 1 singles was a back and forth affair between Anna Maria's tandem of Jessica Gautieri (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Nicole Zamira (Mashpee, Mass.) and Clark's Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Stephanie Gallant(Charlton, Mass.). In the end however, the Cougars prevailed, taking the showdown, 9-8.

Anna Maria got on the board in singles action where Goudreau was able to topple Kravetz 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and Mulcahy breezed past Gallant, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
