JWU Sweeps Women's Tennis

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women's tennis swept Anna Maria College by a score of 9-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at the Moses Brown courts on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Samantha Jo Borr (Westfield, N.J.), sophomore Morgan Thompson (Fargo, N.D.) junior Emily Glass (Sterling, Conn.) and senior Gabrielle Longo (Philadelphia, Pa.) all had two wins on the day for the Wildcats.

Borr and Thompson posted a commanding 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles to open the day for the Wildcats.  Borr earned her second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles while Thompson posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the second singes spot.  Glass and Longo teamed for the 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles and both picked up their second wins on the day in singles action.  Glass posted a near perfect 6-1, 6-0 win at third singles with Longo recording a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4.

Junior Katelyn Edelson (Berlin, Conn.) and senior Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, R.I.) put up the AMCATS' best fight of the day, as the pair scored a commendable four points at No. 3 doubles.

JWU Freshman Taylor Klein (Johnson, N.Y.) notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles for JWU while sophomore Samantha Gambino (New York, N.Y.) finished off the sweep for the Wildcats with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at the sixth singles spot.

With the victory Johnson & Wales remains perfect at 4-0 on the year and 1-0 in the GNAC while Anna Maria falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.  The AMCATS are next in action on Friday, September 26th when they travel to Curry College for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match.
