Mulcahy Named to GNAC All-Conference Second Team

WINTHROP, Mass.—Junior Callie Mulcahy (Charlton, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College women's tennis team has been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference Second Team at singles, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Mulcahy posted a 5-7 record in singles play this season, including a 1-5 record in GNAC competition. She bounced between four positions this season, seeing a majority of her action at No. 3 singles, where she compiled a 3-3 record, but also seeing action the 1, 2, and 4 slots over the course of 2015.

Her biggest singles victory of the season was a 6-2, 6-0 win in the second position against Mount Ida. She coupled that win with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Becker in the top slot for back-to-back singles wins midway through the season.

Mulcahy also teamed up with five different teammates to post a 6-6 record in doubles play.

Joining Mulcahy on the GNAC All-Conference second team are Taylor Klein of Johnson & Wales, Sakinah Abdulsalam of the University of Saint Joseph, and Katie Crowley, Rachel Downey, and Ashley Pierce of Simmons.

Aidana Sagyndykova of Suffolk was named the GNAC Player of the Year, while teammate Valentina Medina was tabbed as the Rookie of the Year. Bob Rauseo of Simmons, who recently led his team to their eighth-straight league title, was voted the GNAC Coach of the Year.

AMCAT senior Freya Sprous (Ware, Mass.) was named to the league's All-Sportsmanship team.
